Jindal\nGlobal University (JGU)&nbsp;in collaboration with Delhi Public School (DPS),\nR.K. Puram organized a conference titled Seminar on&nbsp;\u201cTransitions from\nSchool&nbsp;to University: Study Opportunities, Career Planning and\nProfessional Development.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening also witnessed the\nlaunch of the Higher Education Summer School (HESS) Career Advancement\nProgramme (CAP) in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking about the launch of HESS\nCAP during his inaugural address, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice\nChancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) and Director, International\nInstitute for Higher Education Research &amp; Capacity Building (IIHEd), said,\n\u201cThere is a&nbsp;huge&nbsp;information gap at the level of school leaving\nstudents, who have often been attracted to conventional courses, saturating\ntheir careers later with little vision and no imagination. The vision of the\nHigher Education Summer School \u2013 Career Advancement Programme (HESS \u2013 CAP) is\nto provide an opportunity to high school students in India and abroad to have a\nglobally oriented academic engagement within a university environment. The\nHESS-CAP seeks to address the fundamental questions that high school students,\nparents, teachers, counsellors and all stakeholders in the education system are\nasking. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering the Presidential\nAddress at the conference, Dr. D.R. Saini, Principal, Delhi Public School, R.K.\nPuram, said, \u201cWe are at a critical juncture, where the quality of education\nmatters much more than the number of students educated in the country. The\nprivate institutions and universities of our country are successfully poised to\nmeet this demand they now must act as torchbearers and exemplars and aspire to\nmeet global standards of international universities across the world\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Ashok Kumar, CEO, The\nIndian High School Group, Dubai summarized the prevalent behavior trends\namongst school children as competition, survival of the fittest, quick returns\nand lack of future planning. He further emphasised on a partnership between\nschools and universities and said, \u201cwe need to question if schools cater to 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;century\nrequirements and emphasize on critical thinking and problem solving, schools\nneed to play a role in developing these skills&nbsp; and universities need to\nconstantly orient schools in achieving these goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first plenary session was\ndesigned around the theme \u201cThinking Outside the Box: Moving Beyond Conventional\nStudy Options\u201d and had an expansive line up of eminent school educators. The\nsession was chaired by Professor&nbsp;Kathleen Modrowski, Dean of\nthe&nbsp;Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities, O.P.&nbsp;Jindal\nGlobal&nbsp;University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the session Ms.\nDayita Datta, Vice Principal, Welham Girls School, Dehradun spoke about her\ndespair in the dumbing down of the syllabus to the lowest common denominator\nand the increase in number of marks being awarded, she said, \u201ceveryone is\ngetting above 90%. The numbers cannot judge a child\u2019s capability or\npreparedness for the child\u2019s future work in college or life. We need to\ninculcate analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amongst the other panelists\nwere:&nbsp;Dr. Tarulata Hirani, Head of School, Ahmedabad International School,\nMs. Anisha Sharma, Principal, The Royal Academy, Raipur, Mr. Reneesh Mathew,\nSenior Principal, Velammal Global School, Chennai, Ms. Sonal Rawat, Vice\nPrincipal, Ecole Globale International Girls&#8217; School and Ms. Heemal H. Bhatt,\nPrincipal, Hans Raj Model School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second session revolved around\nthe theme \u201cImagining The Future: Empowering Schools to Diversify Learning\nOpportunities\u201d which was chaired by Professor&nbsp;Sreeram Chaulia, Dean of the\nJindal School of International Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the session Ms.\nRekha Krishnan,&nbsp;Principal, Vasant Valley School&nbsp; emphasized that we\nwould be doing our children a great dis-service if we look at education from\nthe narrow perspective of it leading to a career path. Focusing on the theme\nshe said, \u201cWe cannot imagine the future we can only look at current trends and\ncome close to predicting the future.&nbsp; As educators we can only prepare our\nchildren for the unknown future with a broader skill set.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amongst the other speakers at\nthe session were Ms. Nandita Sahu, Principal, Tagore International School, Ms.\nVasudha Neelmani, Principal, Vidya Sanskar International School, Greater\nFaridabad,&nbsp; Ms. Nisha Nair, Research Associate, Jindal Global Law School\n,Mr. Dhirendra Singh, Principal, Sehwag International School, Dr. D.K. Pandey,\nPrincipal, N.C. Jindal Public School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About\nHESS-CAP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HESS-CAP is committed to\nproviding the most inspiring learning experience for students. An outstanding\ngroup of faculty members will train, guide, mentor and instruct young minds to\nbecome leaders of tomorrow. The faculty members teaching the students have\nexemplary qualifications from the world&#8217;s leading universities such as Harvard,\nYale, Columbia, Stanford, Princeton, MIT, UCBerkeley, Cornell, Oxford,\nCambridge, King&#8217;s, LSE JNU, IITs, IIMs, DU and other universities in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HESS-CAP will be a\n3-week, fully residential programme at the state-of-the-art campus of O.P.\nJindal Global University located in Sonipat, NCR of Delhi and will be held from\n13 June, 2016 to 3 July, 2016. Students who are currently pursuing class IX-XII\nwill be eligible to apply for the program<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teaching pedagogy of the\nHESS-CAP will consist of a combination of lectures, seminars, and tutorial\nsessions using new and innovative approaches to provide learning. Experts from\nrelevant fields through thematic sessions will develop a problem-solving\napproach towards the issues that will be discussed in the classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admissions to this summer\nschool programme will be on a rolling basis and final decisions&nbsp;relating\nto admission to the HESS-CAP will be made on or before 31st March,\n2016.&nbsp;The Students will also get opportunities to meet and interact with\neminent jurists, policy makers, lawyers, social activists, judges, diplomats,\nCEOs, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, poets, artists, musicians, and\neducationists.
