The Government of\nHaryana has signed a MoU with the O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) to draft\nthe State Higher Educational Plan under the Rashtriya Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyaan\n(RUSA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Additional\nChief Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Mr. Vijai Vardhan and Vice\nChancellor of the O.P. Jindal Global University, Professor C Raj Kumar signed\nthe MoU at Chandigarh today in the presence of the Education Minister of\nHaryana, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The International\nInstitute for Higher Education, Research and Capacity Building (IIHEd), a\nresearch institute that focusses on higher education at JGU, will undertake\nthis project. The State Higher Education Plan to be drawn up will cover a\nperiod of next ten years. The Plan will contain the physical targets,\nopportunities and proposals for promoting access, equity and excellence in\nhigher education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address,\nthe Education Minister of Haryana, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma emphasized that\neducation is not mere transmission of information and turning students into\nrobots but instead, it ought to transform the student into an awakened and\nenlightened citizen. He pointed out that the objective of the drawing up the\nPlan was to overcome serious challenges in the field of higher education like employability,\naccess and quality. This is an important opportunity for the Government of\nHaryana to collaborate with the O.P. Jindal Global University for developing a\nroad map for higher education in the state of Haryana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the\noccasion, Mr. Vijai Vardhan said that three workshops will be organized with\nVice Chancellors, Registrars, eminent academics, NGOs, media and other\nstakeholders over next three months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Raj\nKumar stated that the State Higher Education Plan will be drafted through a\nconsultative, participatory and collective exercise. He observed that for the\nsuccess of Digital India, Make in India, Smart City campaigns, drastic\nimprovements in the quality of higher education are required. Professor Kumar\nobserved that Haryana has a great opportunity to contribute to the cause of\nhigher education. The future of Haryana and to a larger extent India will\ndepend on our ability to harness the demographic dividend and the\nresponsibility to educate the youth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
IIHEd\nbased in JGU conducts research and offers advice on all aspects of higher\neducation with a strong focus on curriculum development; pedagogical\ninnovations; faculty engagement; faculty recruitment, retention and\ndevelopment; research and knowledge creation systems; promotion of scholarship\nand building research capacities; developing international collaborations;\nbenchmarking and assessments of institutions; and for providing institutional\nsupport on law, policy and regulations relating to higher education. IIHEd is\nan independent research institute within the JGU that will be focused on\npursuing research and capacity building initiatives on different aspects of\nhigher education in India and beyond.
