Prof. Eleanor Fox, one of the most celebrated antitrust scholars of\nthe world will be critiquing Prof. Bose\u2019s research on \u2018Institutional Design of\nIndia\u2019s Competition Law\u2019 as a discussant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n\u2018Next Generation of Antitrust Scholars Conference\u2019, a coveted bi-annual event,\nis the most prestigious junior antitrust scholars\u2019 conference in the world. The\nconference hosts the brightest young minds in the antitrust (competition law) scholarship\nmarking out those who display a promise to be a part of the next generation of\nleading antitrust scholars.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avirup\nis the first Indian antitrust scholar who has been selected to represent his research\nat the conference and JGLS is the second Law School in Asia, after the\nUniversity of Hong Kong Faculty of Law, who is being represented at the\nconference. Prior universities whose faculty members have presented their\nresearch at the conference include faculty from, the University of Chicago,\nUniversity of Oxford, Columbia University, University College of London,\nMichigan Law School, University of Toronto, University of Notre Dame and\nUniversity of Florida, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof.\nC Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University while congratulating\nProf. Bose said: \u201cThe moment seems apt for a global discussion on the future of\nthe jurisprudence of Indian antitrust enforcement and the ABA could not have\nchosen a better representative of Indian antitrust scholarship than Avirup. We\nat Jindal Global University are doing a tremendous amount of work in this area\nthrough the Jindal Initiative on Research in\nIntellectual Property and Competition (JIRICO) and Avirup\u2019s latest\nachievement will propel our competition research even further.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking\non being selected, Prof. Avirup Bose said, \u201cI am honoured to have been\nselected, especially being the first Indian to be on this prestigious list.\nThere is a paucity of serious antitrust scholarship coming out of India and I\nam glad to make a small contribution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nCompetition Commission of India (CCI) which enforces the six year old antitrust\nregime of India has already imposed financial penalties amounting to more than\n120 billion rupees and has imposed behavioural restrictions on the consummation\nof several international cross border mergers. More than a dozen sectors of the\neconomy \u2013 from automobiles, pharmaceuticals, health services, cement, steel,\ntelecommunications, internet, banking has come under the scrutiny of the aggressive\nmarket regulator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avirup\nhas previously served as an Expert Consultant to the CCI and before joining the\nCCI, he spent six (6) years working in various areas of competition law in New\nYork and Mumbai. Avirup is a regular contributor on Indian competition law\nissues for Business Standard, besides contributing for the Indian Express, the\nFinancial Express, the Business Line and the Mint. He has written extensively\non various aspects of Indian competition law and has spoken on Indian\ncompetition law at Harvard University, Yale School of Management, World Intellectual\nProperty Organization, Indian Society of International Law, and Standing\nConference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avirup\nholds law degrees from the National University of Juridical Sciences and the Harvard\nLaw School.
