New Delhi,\nFebruary 09, 2016; The Delhi Public School recently awarded its meritorious students\nat a prestigious badging\nceremony held at its school ground in R.\nK. Puram. The function is an annual event that seeks to felicitate\nexemplary senior school students each year. The Vice-Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University, Professor (Dr) C\nRaj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion amongst other leading\nacademics, scholars, alumni and parents who took part in the elaborate\nceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Delivering the\nwelcome address on the occasion Dr. D. R. Saini, Principal, Delhi Public\nSchool, R. K. Puram,<\/strong> highlighted the importance of a sound education system\ncapable of equipping students for life, he said, \u201cThe importance of education\nin the life of an individual cannot be overstated. It shapes individuals\nin their formative years and imbues them with values that would govern all\ntheir choices in life. It is said if you are planning for a year, sow\nrice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a\nlifetime, educate people. Indeed, one can even say that the quality of\neducation will determine the destiny of the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt is an\nhonour and a privilege to be the Principal of DPS R.K. Puram, the school that\nstands for excellence and continuously sets the highest standards, the school\nthat is an alma mater which all alumni look back to with fond memories, the\nschool that has given this country many distinguished personalities and leaders\nin diverse fields.\u201d, he further added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Delivering the\nChief Guest lecture at the congregation, Professor (Dr) C Raj Kumar,\nVice-Chancellor, O. P. Jindal Global University<\/strong>, highlighted the acute shortage of faculty in academic\ninstitutions across the country, and said, \u201cThe leading educational\ninstitutions face an acute shortage of strong faculty in the country. As per\nstatistics, the IITs alone face a faculty shortage of close to 32 per cent and\nalmost all the central universities in the country are confronted with a\nfaculty crunch impacting the quality of education in the country.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cEducation is fundamental to development\nand growth of a country and its citizenry, and the current scenario with over\n40% faculty positions lying vacant across institutions cannot be allowed to\ncontinue. The youth of our nation must come forth and embrace this challenge by\nopting for academics as their first and foremost career choice\u201d, he noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Kumar further highlighted the important\nneed of having holistic education programs for the youth of the country, he\nsaid, \u201cAchieving and maintaining a degree of quality, quantity, inclusivity and\naccessibility all together is the need of the hour in the educational\ninstitutes of the country, we need to develop holistic education programmes\nthat would best serve not just oneself but also society at large.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n His inspirational and moving dialogue\ngenerated a rousing response from the audience, an ovation that lasted several\nminutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr. Amit Jain, President, Uber India, who\nis an alumnus of DPS, RK Puram was also present on the occasion. Mr. Jain,\nspoke at length on the learning he imbibed during his time at the school and\nhow the experiences had helped sculpt him as an individual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He credited his alma mater andDr.\nSaini, whom he fondly called as, \u2018guru\u2019, as the instrumental factors that had\nhelped him chase his dreams and succeed in life as an individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The programme also highlighted various\nachievements of the students through a video presentation, which ranged from\ngolf, poetry, dance, astrophysics and chess. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u00b7 Need to develop holistic education programmes that are able to serve society at large: Prof C Raj Kumar \u00b7 Quality of education will determine the destiny of the nation: Dr. D.
