Admission & Selection

The duration of Full-Time & Part-Time PhD is for a minimum of 3 years and maximum 6 years.

As per the UGC rules, the minimum & maximum period of study and research shall not be less than 3 years from the date of enrolment (36 months) & 6 years (72 months) respectively from the date of provisional registration of the candidate. However, in case the performance of the research scholar has been exceptionally good and proven through substantial publications, the period can be reduced by six months. The part time Ph.D. program is for minimum 4 years (48 months) and maximum 6 years (72 months). However, in case the performance of the research scholar has been exceptionally good and proven through substantial publications, the period can be reduced by six months. 

One time registration fee of Rs 10,000/-

The fee per semester is Rs 50,000/-

Thesis Submission Fee  is Rs 5000/-

The amount of fellowship(Stipend) is Rs. 25,000/- per month with accommodation, library, food and other facilities.

The full time Ph.D. students will have to pay registration fee of Rs. 10,000 at the time of joining (one time fees) and a submission fee of Rs. 5000/ at the time of thesis submission. They will receive a stipend of Rs. 25000/ per month during the first three year of Doctoral program. Contingency and conference allowance are also given on providing evidence of proof. The full time candidates are provided with free accommodation and food during their Doctoral program. The number of JGU fellowship for full time Ph.D is limited and is purely based on merit. Hence interested scholars who intend to pursue full time Ph.D. program without any Fellowship have to pay the fees of a part time scholar and join the program.


Doctoral candidates have to bear their expenses for international exchange programs and school will only facilitate their engagement with partner schools.

  4. d. Chapter Outline   

Step 2: Entrance Examination RAT(Research Aptitude Test)

  Note: Entrance Examination exemption(as per the concerned JGU school requirement) to those Applicants who have qualified UGC/CSIR/ JRF/NET/SLET(Haryana State) or any other similar examination.

 Step 3: Interview with the School Doctoral Committee (SDC).

Those candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil programme are exempted from the JGU RAT Exam.

The RAT exam consist of 2 Parts . 





Research Methodology



Subject Specific




To pass the RAT a score of 50% overall is required

Selection Criterion based on RAT and interview

RAT scores carry 70 per cent weightage to selection criterion whereas 30 per cent weightage is given to the interview process.

A regular full-time research scholar shall attend classes on a regular basis till completion of the course work not exceeding one and half years.


A part-time/ sponsored research scholar shall spend a minimum of 7 days during a semester to seek professional guidance from his/ her Supervisor/ Co-Supervisor and/ or avail the library/ laboratory facilities.


University Doctoral Committee(UDC) has powers to allow an overseas candidate to do Residency in his/ her City provided the University has some kind of collaboration with the University/ Institute concerned.
