Inside JGU 2020 - Issue 4 (April)

Cover Story: Academic semester at JGU resumes in online mode

Following extensive consultations with students, staff and parents, the Spring 2020 academic semester resumed in online mode on 20 April 2020. The semester had been interrupted in March following the nationwide lockdown announced by the Government of India in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Since resumption of the semester, over 400 courses have been delivered online by faculty members, with 5,000+ students in attendance across the University’s eight schools. Faculty members have tailored course curriculum to meet the needs of the modified delivery format, and to ensure that courses meet the intended learning objectives. A massive pan-university effort was undertaken, particularly by the JGU IT Team, to ensure that online classes were held as per scheduled timetables, met the highest standards and quality of delivery, teaching and learning, and round the clock support was available for students and faculty. In the first few days of online classes, 1303 support requests were raised for IT intervention and resolved. In exceptional cases, university technical staff resolved issues in person on the ground while taking adequate precautions and following the social distancing norms.

Out of 1228 planned online classes, faculty, students and staff, through concerted efforts were able to overcome multiple hurdles to conduct 1219 classes successfully.
