India Gate is a 42 meter high “Arc-de-Triomphe” like archway, which is situated in the heart of Delhi city. Formerly known as All India War Memorial, India Gate was built to commemorate the death of 70,000 British Indian soldiers who died during First World War between 1914-21. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Even though India Gate was constructed as a war memorial, the architectural style of the monument makes it appear like an epitome of triumph.
Red Fort, popularly known as Lal Quila, is the pride of the nation. It is a historic fort built in 1638 and is situated in the older part of the city. It is entirely made up of red sandstone and displays imposing walls, marvellous architecture. Red Fort served as the primary residence for Mughal Emperors who ruled the city, for about 200 years. Besides, the historical monument also served as the political center of the Mughals.
The Qutub Minar is a towering 73 meter high tower built by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak in 1193. This tower is the highest tower in India, complete with five storeys and projecting balconies.The construction of the Qutub Minar was started by Qitub-ud-Din Aibak, but he only constructed the basement. Apart from the tower, the Qutub Minar complex comprises of the Quwwat-us-Islam Mosque (the first mosque to be built in India), a 7 metre high iron pillar, the Tomb of Iltutmish, Ala’i-Darwaza and the Ala’I Minar.
Humayun Tomb is located near Nizamuddin East, India, Delhi, and Dina- panah Citadel and is also known as Purana Qila. Humayun’s Tomb was built in the 1560’s, with the patronage of Humayun’s son, the great Emperor Akbar. Humayun’s Garden-Tomb is an example of the charbagh (a four quadrant garden with the four rivers of Quranic paradise represented), with pools joined by channels. The garden is entered from lofty gateways on the south and from the west with pavilions located in the centre of the eastern and northern walls.

Connaught Place is one of the largest commercial and financial markets of the world. , it It is also a shopping hub with some of the most prominent brands in the country and the world. Often abbreviated as CP, Connaught Place is the heart of Delhi and houses headquarters of some of the biggest firms in the world. CP was named after Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught and Strathearn and developed as a showpiece of Lutyens’ Delhi. The Connaught Place market is built in the shape of a horseshoe, as British believed that this could bring luck for the shopkeepers as well as the shoppers.
Gandhiji’s memorial at Raj Ghat is a square platform made using black marble. The plain structure has the words ‘Hey Ram’ inscribed on it since these were the last words uttered by the assassinated leader. On top of the marble platform, an eternal flame enclosed in a glass frame burns ceaselessly, all through the day and night. The memorial was designed by Vanu G. Bhuta in keeping with Gandhiji’s policy of simple living and high thinking.
Rashtrapati Bhavan, home to the President of the world’s largest democracy, epitomizes India’s strength, its democratic traditions and secular character. Painstaking efforts of thousands of labourers including masons, carpenters, artists, carvers and cutters saw the completion of this masterwork in the year 1929. It was the creation of the architects of exceptional imagination and masterfulness, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker.
