Professor Bala completed his B.A. in the Comparative Study of Religion from Harvard University in 2009 and his M.A. from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago in 2013. His research focuses broadly on questions concerning the role of religion in modernity and the role of religion in the formation of individual and community identities. While his earlier work has focused on the religious landscape of the United States, he has continued to pursue a broader line of research in India through an ongoing project studying the idea of space and identity in the Shia community of India. In addition to his research work on religion, he also peruses research theater and dramatic arts and has in the past worked as a theater director and producer. Additional research topics of interest include philosophy, ethics, and theology. In JSLH, he has as the Assistant Dean of Student Initiatives and Compliance, the liaison for the Jindal-Rollins degree program, and was part of the Curriculum and Majors Design Committee. He currently serves as the Director of Admissions and Outreach for Jindal Global University.
