Net Zero by 2035

The primary aim of the Paris Agreement is to limit global mean warming in the 21st century to below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and promote efforts to limit the rise in temperature to 1.4 degrees Celsius. The goal requires the global economy to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.

JGU’s target

O.P. Jindal Global University has made an ambitious commitment to balance the greenhouse gas emissions generated and removed from the atmosphere by our activities by 2030.

JGU is a signatory of Race to Zero, a global initiative for a Zero Carbon World, powered by the UN Environment Program, EAUC & Second Nature.

Action Plan

JGU has partnered with an external firm for accounting and reporting of our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for FY23-24. According to the report received, a comprehensive plan to ensure the reduction of emissions from the university’s activities is being developed. The plan will list the actions to be taken toward achieving short-term and long-term goals. This plan will act as a guideline for the implementation of sustainability at an institutional level, cementing our leadership commitment and internal awareness and alignment.

The action plan will involve contributions from individuals across the university who have proposed strategies related to operations, construction, energy systems, purchasing, refrigerants, travel, transportation, waste and water systems etc.

JGU faculty and students will have the opportunity to continuously engage in developing our strategy, to make use of our extensive academic resources and research capabilities.
