Sonipat (Haryana), June 5: Ten students of Jindal Global University (JGU) got selected for the fully funded course International Summer Program: Identity-Based Conflict Resolution at the prestigious Bar Ilan University, Israel. The month-long interdisciplinary program will begin on 2 July with a special scholarship from the Israeli National Council for Higher Education. The scholarship of $2720 (Rs 1,76,800) covers tuition and housing including weekday suppers.

Eight students from the Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) and two from Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) have been selected for the aforementioned program. The list of students includes- Neha Sirohi, Mansheetal Singh, Samarth Kavoori, Suraj Ranjan, Viswas Viswanath, Pragadish Kirubakaran, Megha Gupta, Hima Bindu from JSIA; Keshav Mittal Kumar and Rishabh Rao Yandamuri from JGLS.

Dr. Khinvraj Jangid, Assistant Professor & Faculty Coordinator, Jindal Centre for Israel Studies (JCIS) said “Jindal Centre for Israel Studies has successfully created an international opportunity for JGU students for the fourth consecutive year. Four students from the university were selected for the first time in 2015 followed by six students in 2016 and nine students in 2017. Going to Israel will certainly enable the students to have first-hand experience of the place where conflict, war and violence are often in the news. Conflicts such as Israel-Palestine or India-Pakistan are complex because of the centrality of identity (ethnic, religious) questions”.

Congratulating the students on achieving this feat, JGU VC Professor (Dr) C Raj Kumar said, “JGU’s aspiration to become a world-class university is founded on our commitment to promoting high-quality interdisciplinary approach in a vibrant and plural environment, facilitated by a supportive governance and management structure, enabling policies and facilities and state-of-the-art-infrastructure. These international exchanges not only will broaden the horizon of the participants but will also arm them with a greater degree of intellectual prowess towards global issues”.

JCIS reflects interdisciplinarity and underlines JGU’s overarching vision to promote a global perspective and merges studies of culture, history, regional conflict in the West Asia and spatial coexistence. Anchored by leading scholars and practitioners, this unique program by Bar Ilan University will equip the students to interact with different parties of the conflict. According to Bar Ilan University, under this interdisciplinary four-week program participants will have four courses of eight academic credits. The students will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of all courses (issued by the University’s Faculty of Law). The summer program managed by the Faculty of Law at Bar Ilan University provides – thorough on-site experiential and traditional learning – theoretical and practical insights. Participants undergoing this course come from all disciplines in the social sciences, law and the humanities (including conflict resolution practitioners, as well as the general public).

Jindal Centre for Israel Studies at JGU is the first and thus far the only centre for Israel Studies in the Indian academia.
