HUSHED – By Devangana Kuthari

The first day of unpacking,

of fears and belongings.

In the sea of new faces,

young adults were set loose.

A hushed feeling of homesickness,

spaced loud chatters and exchanged-smiles.

One moment names exchanged, the next forgotten.

First impressions of like and dislike.

Time rolled.

Three days became three weeks,

finally, 3 months.

Change was the only constant,

obviously excluding assignments and never ending readings.

Familiarity slowly settled in corners,

of shortcuts and friends.

Techniques of survival,

for devilish eight am lectures and heavenly Sodexo food,

were learnt, practiced and propagated.

And before we knew,

dorms became home

and friends; family.
