Continuing the tradition of global collaborations across the world, the Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) of O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the School of Social Sciences (SSS), Tsinghua University, China. This is yet another important MOU signed with an international university and sets forth a framework for both institutions to collaborate in areas of joint research, student exchange and semester abroad programs. The Tsinghua University's Law School already has a MoU with the Jindal Global Law School and this is an effort to expand and deepen the relationship between both the universities. The MOU was signed during a visit to JGU by Professor Shi Zhiqin, Dean, Institute of International Studies and Chairman, School Council of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Professor Zhang Chuanjie, Associate Dean, Office of International Cooperation & Exchange and Director, Doctoral Programme in Developing Country Studies, Tsinghua University. The first joint initiative under this collaboration will see 20 students from Tsinghua University travelling to India in January 2016 for a 2-week India Immersion certificate course to be held at the JGU campus. Congratulating JSIA on its new international partnership, Professor C Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of JGU, said, “International education and collaborations of this type promote knowledge exchange between global communities and enhances our student’s transformative educational experience. It is with this vision that we have partnered with over 100 institutions in 35 countries since our inception in 2009.” Extolling the achievements of Chinese universities, he said, “The leading institutions in China have achieved extraordinary distinctions and have rapidly evolved into world class universities. We are proud to be associated with Tsinghua University, which is amongst the top universities of the world and are keen on establishing an environment of excellence in education via our collaborative initiatives.” Commenting on the MOU, Professor Shi of Tsinghua University cited that, “It’s a remarkable opportunity for Chinese students which will see them visiting an Indian campus to learn about Indian society, economy, politics and foreign policy. We’ve partnered with JGU for its international reputation as being amongst the leading universities in India and we are certain this collaboration will create tremendous opportunities for Chinese academia in the better understanding of India.” Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sreeram Sundar Chaulia, Professor and Dean of JSIA, stated, “This agreement of cooperation will bring Indian and Chinese youth together for broad exchange of views and opinions on bilateral relations, and also help mold future leaders of Asia. Hosting Chinese students in Indian Universities will serve as a foundation for a deeper people to people understanding and ultimately improve their ties which are crucial for the stability of Asia.” This collaboration between JGU and Tsinghua University builds on the success of a recent visit to China by JGU faculty members early this year, who had visited the university to explore avenues of cooperation in student mobility and joint research. The agreement provides for exchange of faculty members, exchange of students for a full semester and short-term certificate courses, joint research projects on China-India relations, joint conferences and joint curricular activities. JSIA is India’s first global policy school training undergraduate and graduate students in international economics and politics, JSIA is part of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), a non-profit global institution committed to promoting global courses, global curriculum, global research, global collaborations, and global interactions through global faculty. Tsinghua University is one of the most prestigious universities of the world.
